2007 Goldenstates - Saturday
Posted by FIL on Sunday, December 02, 2007 (12:56:52) (910 reads)
Drag Racing Saturdays racing at the Goldenstates started half an hour earlier than originally planned to accomodate the remaining passes in Doorslammer qualifying, and to also to minimize the impact of the rain that threatened to slow proceedings. Kath Stevens, Aaron Lynch and Ben Bray had all missed out on their final qualifying pass on Friday night, but ran at 3pm to complete the session. Only Ben's pass impacted on the ladder, with Aaron and Kath both failing to qualify.

In the finals, John Zappia ran his slowest pass of the meeting at 6.14 seconds, but still managed to cross the finish line ahead of Steve Stanic to win his first ever Western Australian Doorslammer round while Troy McLean defeated Ian Ashelford in another close race.

You can check out all 1090 photos from the racing and trophy presentations here.

2007 Goldenstates - Friday
Posted by FIL on Friday, November 30, 2007 (16:30:50) (683 reads)
Drag Racing Unfortunately, tonights racing at the Perth Motorplex was interrupted by rain, resulting in the Top Doorslammers being unable to complete their third round of qualifying. After some quick discussions, the Motorplex race management decided to complete the third qualifying session at 3pm on Saturday.

After two sessions of Doorslammer qualifying, John Zappia is top qualifier, with a 6.025, followed by Gary Phillips, Ben Bray, Peter Kapiris, Stuart Bishop, Robin Judd, Aaron Lynch and sitting on the bump spot, Brett Stevens with a 6.549.

In Top Bike, qualifying is complete, and Troy McLean leads the list with a 6.508, followed by Brett Stevens, Mark Drew, Athol Williams, Kim Stevens, Syd Standring, Mark Ashelford and Ian Ashelford, however this is likely to change as Kim Stevens suffered a broken leg after hitting the sand trap at high speed in qualifying today. Neville Smith is currently sitting in 9th position, just outside the field.

You can check out all the photos from tonights racing here.

Posted by FIL on Wednesday, November 28, 2007 (15:16:43) (708 reads)
Drag Racing On the Wednesday leading up to the Goldenstates, the Motorplex run a test'n'tune event to give the visiting teams the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the local conditions.

Todays event saw Maurice Brennan licensing his VT Commodore, currently stickered as AA/AP, but destined for Top Doorslammer duties, Robin Judd getting in some extra practice ahead of the weekends racing and Peter Kapiris getting used to the new concrete at Kwinana. In addition, Athol Williams ventured out onto the Motorplex quarter mile for the first time and made sure he looked right at home, Jay Upton was doing some last minute testing for the weekend, while Rhys Naylor and Danielle Stone were out testing their Junior Dragsters.

In addition, a number of comp bike, mod bike and super street racers were also taking advantage of the mid week test session, with many staying on to race at the Whoop Ass Wednesday as well.

2007 AFARCC Collie Track Day
Posted by FIL on Sunday, November 25, 2007 (21:48:33) (1032 reads)
Circuit Racing All Fours and Rotaries Car Club ran a test'n'tune event at Collie Motorplex on the weekend. While only a handful of cars ended up taking to the track, those who made the trek to the south west were rewarded with a full day of track time for under $100. Drivers were sent out in groups of 4 for sessions of 5 laps at a time, which gave them plenty of time to get to know the track but also got them off the circuit and back into pit lane without putting too much stress on the vehicles.

Check out the photos here. For more information about AFARCC and to find out about upcoming events, check out their website.

2007 November 21st Whoop Ass Wednesday
Posted by FIL on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 (14:13:23) (698 reads)
Drag Racing Tonights Whoop Ass Wednesday was a relatively quiet night on the Drag Strip, which gave me the opportunity to change to a smaller lens for part of the night. you'll notice that the photos from the first half of the night feature a lot of wide angle, side on and low angle shots, these are shots I wouldn't normally get at drag meets as the lenses I normally use have to much zoom to be effective in that situation. However, I do think there are some really cool shots to be had, so one of the next lenses I plan on buying will be something in the range of roughly 17 - 85mm.

Check out the photos here.

2007 November 12th Formula Tech Mystery Monday
Posted by FIL on Monday, November 12, 2007 (15:36:16) (726 reads)
Drag Racing Racer turnout at tonight's Mystery Monday, sponsored by Formula Tech in Bibra Lake, was probably affected by the hot weather, with less than a hundred cars and bikes going down the track tonight. As a result, no one was able to complain about a lack of runs, with some people making over 30 trips down the track.

A private test day during the day and the warm weather helped the track temperature stay above 40 degree's C for a large part of the night, ensuring optimum traction.

2007 November 7th Whoop Ass Wednesday
Posted by FIL on Wednesday, November 07, 2007 (15:57:32) (588 reads)
Drag Racing This weeks Whoop Ass Wednesday had 2 of the key ingredients to a huge turnout, a track fresh from a National Open, promising plenty of traction, and some awesome weather all day and night. However, for some reason, racer turnout was down on previous meetings this season. For whatever the reason, this of course had an upside, with the racers who did turn up getting in heaps of runs during the night, and many going home with personal best times.

You can check out all the photos here. (Sorry, no speedway photos this week)
